Remove location from photos

Phone photos often carry the exact spot they were taken. See what's inside yours, then download a clean copy without GPS, camera or date details.

AI labels (Content Credentials) stay with the image. Pixel watermarks like SynthID need Google's SynthID Detector.

    How it works

    Images: three layers, three answers

Content Credentials signed record of how it was made read · kept Metadata GPS, camera, date, prompts read · removable Pixels where SynthID watermarks live not read here

Metadata is where your location and camera details hide, so that's what the cleaner removes. Content Credentials stay, because removing an AI label would mislead whoever sees the image next.

    What gets removed

    • Location: exact GPS coordinates. The report shows them on a map first so you can see what you'd be sharing.
    • Camera details: make, model, lens, serial number and owner name.
    • Dates and software: when the photo was taken and what edited it.
    • Text fields: comments and embedded prompts.

The image itself isn't re-compressed, so quality stays exactly the same. Download the cleaned copy and share that one instead.

    Questions

Do photos really contain my location?

Photos from phones usually do, when location access is on for the camera. The exact GPS position is stored in the file's EXIF data, along with the camera model and the time the photo was taken.

Does removing location reduce image quality?

No. We remove the metadata blocks and leave the image data exactly as it was. Nothing is re-compressed.

Do social media sites remove location anyway?

Most big platforms strip it from what other people see. Email, messaging apps, cloud links, marketplaces and forums often don't, so the original file goes out with your location inside.

    What else gets removed?

Camera make and model, lens, serial number, owner name, the date taken, editing software and text fields such as embedded AI prompts. Content Credentials are kept.

Is my photo uploaded to remove the data?

No. The cleaning happens in your browser and the cleaned copy is created on your device.
