Was this image made with AI?

Drop in an image to see whether its metadata or Content Credentials say AI made it, and which tool was involved. For pixel watermarks, we point you to SynthID Detector.

AI labels (Content Credentials) stay with the image. Pixel watermarks like SynthID need Google's SynthID Detector.

    How it works

    Images: three layers, three answers

Content Credentials signed record of how it was made read · kept Metadata GPS, camera, date, prompts read · removable Pixels where SynthID watermarks live not read here

Metadata is where your location and camera details hide, so that's what the cleaner removes. Content Credentials stay, because removing an AI label would mislead whoever sees the image next.

    What the AI check reads

    • Content Credentials (C2PA): the signed record many generators attach, including who issued it and whether it says AI made the image.
    • AI labels in metadata: the IPTC digital source type field that marks images as AI-generated.
    • Embedded prompts: the prompt and settings that tools like Stable Diffusion and ComfyUI write into PNG files.

It doesn't guess from how an image looks. It reports what the file says about itself, which is far more reliable when it's there.

    Questions

How can I tell if an image was made with AI?

Start with what the file says about itself. Many generators write an AI label into the metadata or attach Content Credentials. If those are missing, check for a SynthID watermark at synthid.com. If neither turns up, the file alone can't prove how it was made.

    What are Content Credentials (C2PA)?

A signed record attached to an image that says which tool made or edited it, and whether AI was involved. Images from ChatGPT, Gemini, Adobe Firefly and others carry them.

Why does the report say “signature not verified”?

We read the credentials and the AI label inside them, but we don't yet check the cryptographic signature. For a full signature check, use the Content Authenticity Initiative's verify tool.

The image has no AI label. Does that mean a person made it?

No. Metadata is easy to lose: screenshots, social media uploads and many editors strip it. A missing label only means there's no label.

    Can you detect SynthID?

Not here. SynthID is a watermark inside the pixels and only Google's detector can read it. We link you straight to it.
