On a Samsung Galaxy, select photos in Gallery, tap Share, and tick Remove location data before choosing an app. In Google Photos, links and shared albums leave location out by default, and you can remove a location under the photo's info. To stop new photos saving location, turn off Save location (Pixel) or Location tags (Samsung) in the camera settings.
Samsung Galaxy: remove location when sharing
- Open Gallery and long-press to select one or more photos.
- Tap Share.
- Tick Remove location data at the top of the share panel.
- Choose the app or person to share with.
This needs One UI 3.0 or later. Samsung Messages also has its own setting, Remove location from shared images, under Messages > menu > Settings > More settings.
Google Photos
When sharing: new shared links, albums and conversations leave location out by default. For a shared album, you can check under Share > Album options that Share photo locations is off.
Removing a stored location: open the photo, open its Info, and next to the location choose Edit > Remove location. To do several at once on the web, select them and choose More > Edit location > Remove location.
One catch: Google Photos can't remove a location the camera wrote into the file. For those photos, use the Samsung share option above or the photo metadata remover.
Stop the camera saving location
- Pixel: open the Camera app, go to its settings, and turn off Save location.
- Samsung: open the Camera app, tap the gear icon, and turn off Location tags.
- Other brands: look for a similar option in camera settings, such as Save location info (Xiaomi) or Store location data (OnePlus).
This only affects new photos.
Check that it worked
Send a photo to yourself the way you normally share, then open the received file in our EXIF viewer in your phone's browser. If no GPS shows, the location is gone. Nothing is uploaded.
